Our school banner

This is our school banner.  Inspiration for the layout came from ideas put forward by each class.  These ideas were then made into the final design, by Mrs Dawn Clennett, whose son was a pupil at the school.  The school would like to say a very special thank-you to Mrs Clennett for all her hard work.  The banner is brilliant!

Autumn Term 2010

The autumn term got off to a brilliant start , with Class 4 visiting Robinwood Activity Centre near Alston, Cumbria, for  three action packed days.  It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved.  Each child experienced ‘real’ adventure activities, such as zip wiring, climbing, abseiling, caving, archery, trying out a giant swing and much more.

To help towards gaining the full International School Award. we held a special India Week to coincide with the Commonwealth Games.  Indian students from Teesside University came to school every day and taught the children all about their country and its traditions, how to dance Bollywood style and to play a traditional board game called Carrom.  The children and staff also had henna painted on their hands and were shown how to wrap a sari.

On the last day, many children dressed up in Indian clothes and everyone, including staff and three governors, took part in a fantastic, very enjoyable Dance Performance.

The term ended with our annual Christmas play, performed by Class 2, (with the help of Class 3 choir), entitled 'the Donkey Seller'.  It was a resounding success!

Spring Term 2011

Our Spring term has been very busy.  Year 5 and 6 had the opportunity to visit Space to Learn, along with several other primary schools.  The theme of their visit was Mardi Gras.  Before their visit, along with the rest of the school, they designed and made carnival masks. Once there, they were able to get into carnival mood, by learning French dances, circus skills and trying some traditional French food.  The climax of the visit was a very colourful parade, in which they wore their masks, danced and performed the circus skills they had learned.

The theme of Mardi Gras continued back at school, when on Shrove Tuesday, Mrs Merifield ( our MFL teacher) organised a fun packed day of dance and music involving the whole school, in which the pupils had the opportunity to wear their carnival masks.

In March we all enjoyed dressing up to raise money for Comic Relief, on Red Nose Day. At playtime, the School Council, organised a cake stall.  The money raise from the sale of the cakes, helped boost our total to an impressive £268.50.

During the Spring term, we also had a special visit from TFM Radio 'School of the Week' programme, organised by Marsha Coleman (School Playleader).

Summer Term

We had a very exciting summer term.  One of the main events, which involved the whole school was Healthy School Week.  We had lots of brilliant activities throughout the week, such as , circus skills, climbing wall, skipping competition, woodland walk and dance using the Wii. The week ended with our annual Sports Day.  All pupils had a great time.

This term,  Class 3 visited the Jorvic Viking Centre, as part of their history topic ' The Vikings'. Travelling back in time, they discovered more about the Viking way of life.

As a link to their topic on 'Coastal Erosion' in geography,  Class 4,  visited Blackhall Rocks.  There, they could see for themselves how sea and weathering affect our coastline.

Class 3 had a very exciting time, when they visited the Jorvic Centre, as part of their history topic ' the Vikings'.  Travelling back in time, to a Viking village, they discovered lots of interesting new facts about life at that time in history.

Mrs Yildirim and the Ecology Club would like to share their exciting news.  on Tuesday 5th July 2011, the Keep Britain Tidy assessor came into school and awarded us the Green Flag Award.  This is the highest award given to schools that are environmentally friendly and we are only the third school primary school in Hartlepool to be given this award.  The school will be given a flag to fly outside school.

Our term ended with our annual summer production by KS2 pupils. This term, as always,  was a resounding success, with a spectacular performance of 'Robin Hood'.

Autumn Term

The International School Award (ISA)

At the beginning of this Autumn term, we had some very exciting news - Greatham CE Primary School has been awarded the full International School Award, valid for the next three years.  This prestigious award is in recognition of all the activities we have undertaken to promote intercultural awareness and understanding.

This year we will be sharing work again with our partner schools in India on topics such as My School, Festivals, Weather and the Summer Olympics and we also hope to exchange letters with our French partner schools.  This work is to make our children more aware of the wider world and also to enrich the curriculum.
